Perhaps you’ve asked the question:
“How Does One Become a Member of the Church of Christ?”

We believe and teach the Gospel of Christ as God’s plan for saving mankind. That plan is as follows:

  • Hear the Gospel— “How shall they call on him whom they have not heard? And how shall they believe him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:14). “So then faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17).

  • Believe—”And without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and the He is a rewarder of them that seek after Him.” (Hebrews 11:6). “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:16).

  • Repent—”The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked; but now he commandeth men that they should all everywhere repent.” (Acts 17:30). “Nay except you repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3, 5).

  • Confess Jesus as Lord—”Behold there is water; what doth hindereth me to be baptized? And Phillip said, if thou believeth with all they heart thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” (Acts 8:36-37).

  • Be baptized for the remission of sins— Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

Baptism puts one into the church of Christ; the church you can find in the Bible (Romans 16:16). God wants all His people to exist and be a part of His Church. You must live the Christian life—“Ye are an elect race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that ye may show forth the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” (I Peter 2:9).

Gary J. Smith

GARY SMITH was born in Bermuda. He moved to Lubbock, Texas to attend the Sunset International Bible Institute (SIBI) in 2003. 

Gary received his ministry training at SIBI (2003-05) and began his first full-time ministry in Baltimore, Maryland as part of a church planting team at the Southside Church of Christ.  Having served there one and a half years as Associate Minister, he moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia now serving as  Minister since November, 2006. He met his wife Esther in Lubbock and they were married July 12th, 2008.

Gary's favorite scripture is Psalm 27 and he enjoys camping, gardening, stamp collecting and photography.
